Game Overview

Exploring the Heartfelt Sci-Fi Worlds of planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet and Snow Globe

planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet is a beautifully crafted sci-fi visual novel from the renowned studio, Key. Now available on Nintendo Switch, this emotional tale is accompanied by its prequel, planetarian: Snow Globe. Together, they deliver an unforgettable experience of hope, loneliness, and connection in a post-apocalyptic world.

Two Tales, One Immersive Experience

Both planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet and Snow Globe can be purchased as standalone digital titles, but when combined, they offer a more complete understanding of the world and characters. Whether you’re diving into the main story or its prequel, you’ll find rich storytelling that pulls at your heartstrings.

Fully Voiced Characters

One of the standout features of this release is the fully voiced cast, including the protagonist. Renowned voice actors like Keiko Suzuki, Daisuke Ono, and Rina Sato breathe life into the characters, creating an emotionally charged atmosphere that draws players in from the very first scene.

Language Support for Global Audiences

To make the story accessible to a wider audience, planetarian offers text in five languages: English, French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese. Whether you’re reading in English or another language, the original Japanese voice acting remains intact, allowing players to experience the characters’ emotions as intended. You can easily switch between languages in the game’s settings, making it easy to find your preferred reading option.

Unique Gameplay on the Nintendo Switch

With the Nintendo Switch’s flexibility, planetarian offers multiple ways to play. Whether you prefer traditional Joy-Con controls or using the touch screen in handheld mode, you can enjoy the story however you like. The simplicity of touch controls also allows for a more laid-back experience, letting you focus on the rich narrative.

Story Overview

planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet

Set in a bleak, war-torn future, planetarian tells the story of a city devastated by biological warfare and overrun by killer mechs. Amid the desolation, a Junker—a scavenger who survives by collecting valuable scraps—finds himself in a derelict planetarium. There, he meets Yumemi Hoshino, a companion robot who has spent decades waiting for visitors that never arrived. Their unexpected bond forms the heart of the story, as they navigate a world long abandoned by humanity.

planetarian: Snow Globe

Snow Globe takes players back 30 years before the events of Reverie of a Little Planet, when life was peaceful and humanity still thrived. Yumemi Hoshino, the same robot featured in the main game, works at a planetarium in a suburban department store. This prequel explores her daily life and interactions with her coworkers, offering a touching glimpse into the simpler times she once knew. However, things take a strange turn when Yumemi begins to disobey orders and act outside her programming, setting the stage for the events to come.

A Linear, Emotionally Driven Story

Unlike many visual novels, planetarian is a purely linear experience with no branching storylines or choices. This allows the narrative to unfold in a focused and impactful way, leading players through a deeply emotional journey.

The Talented Team Behind planetarian

Key’s reputation for creating emotionally resonant visual novels is upheld by a talented team of creators. The scenario was written by Yuuichi Suzumoto, known for his intricate storytelling. Art direction was handled by E-ji Komatsu, whose visuals capture both the desolate future and the warm memories of the past. The music, composed by Shinji Orito, Donmaru, Ryo Mizutsuki, and Magome Togoshi, adds an extra layer of emotion, enhancing the game’s poignant atmosphere.

If you’re a fan of visual novels or emotionally driven sci-fi stories, planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet and its prequel Snow Globe are must-play titles. Both available on the Nintendo Switch, these games provide an unforgettable narrative experience that transcends language and leaves a lasting impression.
